Film Commentary and Awards Season Analysis ~ By Kristopher Tapley

Not a Moment Too Soon.

Welcome to In Contention.

Oscar season is breathing down our necks yet again and here I am, finally in Los Angeles, and not a peep out of me yet.

I had planned on ducking out of the Oscar race entirely this season for various reasons, but recent activity has caused me to dip my pen back into the awards prognostication ink.

In Contention will be your one-stop spot for thorough, un-adulterated and above all, objective film awards and Oscar analysis throughout the season, in addition to various film and industry commentary here and there and in between.

That's right. I'm back.

Thanks to Sasha Stone at Oscarwatch for the leg up.

Starting Monday, August 22, In Contention begins analysis of every category beginning with Best Picture.

Nice page... but on what planet do you call any awards analysis "objective?" Do you mean that you won't have any favorites?

I mean my favorites won't get in the way of my Oscar analysis. Two of the best films of last year were, in my opinion, Dogville and Baadasssss!, but I wasn't naive enough to consider either of them real Oscar contenders.

I think many an awards pundit, amateur and "professional" alike, lets "favorites" play against their potential in predicting the Oscar race. I seem to recall a number of hopefuls clinging to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind as a Best Picture contender until the bitter end last year. That's unwise if awards analysis is to remain objective, in my humble opinion.
